Leader: Steve Chapman Reporter and Photographs: Stuart Malone Species List: David Laurie The Highlights!!!! Calling and over-flying Cranes; a hunting Barn Owl successfully catching a vole; a hunting Short-eared Owl; a Great White Egret; fields full of vocal Wigeon and a sky full of Lapwings almost in murmuration numbers! Fourteen members gathered at the RSPB reception with several new members being greeted by more senior members. The weather was excellent, a beautiful cloudless blue sky; and Laura, our Membership Secretary and now RSPB insider, had kindly arranged a
Marsh Harrier flypast to set us off on our way. From the reception we enjoyed a circular walk along Sandy Wall towards the river, then along the river turning at the pump station to head back through the woods to enjoy an outdoor lunch - in January! After lunch we drove to Buckingham Marshes and enjoyed many more sightings - possibly the best being later in the day - a Short-eared Owl hunting over the meadow on the other side of the river. On behalf of everyone I would like to say a big thank you to Steve Chapman who again generously gave us a very enjoyable and informative day.
