The 20 hectare site is an SSSI designated for its botanical wetland flora.
Habitat Whitwell Common has a range of habitats, mainly wet bog but also areas of scrub and carr.
Access Is free to the public. Whitwell Common is about 1.5km along Nowhere Lane towards Reepham off the A1067 Norwich to Fakenham road. There is a small layby in front of the gate at Map ref.TG084204.
Species Numbers of birds are low but due to the varied habitat it has attracted a good range of species including 9 species of Warbler, Bullfinch, Green and Great spotted Woodpeckers, Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Reed Bunting and Goldcrest. Barn Owls hunt the area.
