Isles of Scilly Members Trip 2021
Published December 13, 2020 | We had a very successful Oriole/ WVBS trip in 2020 when we visited the Western Isles,
Oriole Birding has again offered to put together a tailor-made WVBS trip for 2021. This time
combining Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Our two Oriole friends are ideally suited to host this trip. Ashley has been guiding trips to the
south west for the past 18 autumns and he knows Cornwall probably better than any county
outside Norfolk, Nick has been birding Scilly extensively for many years and knows the
islands extremely well. They use two excellent guest houses in the two locations that they
already use for their existing tours there.
Birding in the south west at that time could be excellent. There will be plenty of migrants
around plus good chances for American shorebirds and even passerine vagrants. It’s also a
good time for sea watching and of course chances to see Choughs etc.
Costs will be in the region of £ 1625 per person if 12/14 members take part.
If we have to observe Covid 19 regulations with a maximum of six people in a large minibus,
including the driver from Oriole, with appropriate social distancing and each vehicle operating
as a self-contained bubble, the price would increase by approximately £100 per person.
All you will need to do is get to Great Ryburgh where the tour will depart from, and there will
be adequate safe parking for any vehicles left behind.
At this stage we are looking for a firm indication from members who anticipate they wish to
take part. This will enable Oriole to set the dates aside for us. Please let me know by 30th
