Field Trip: Thursday 20th June – Nightjar Evening at Marsham Heath

Thursday 20th June Nightjar Evening at Marsham Heath leader Josh Leeder

Join us in the car park at Marsham Heath by 2100 hrs (grid ref TG173232). There is a large carpark but please use care as it is very uneven and rutted. Drive slowly and quietly. Please Note There are no toilet facilities

The Nightjars will probably appear after sundown, about 2145 ish and it can turn cold so wrap up warm and don’t forget that Nightjars feed on insects mainly moths but there will possibly be a good few gnats that will feed on you so insect repellent may help. A small torch will also come in handy for the short walk back to the cars. If there is a large number of people it may be necessary to split into two groups and please try to keep the noise down to a reasonable level so we don’t frighten the Nightjars away. Don’t be put off if it is raining earlier as it will possibly dry out later and we have been there in light rain and still seen Nightjars (so a umbrella may be handy in such a case), but we’re sure it will be fine. A nice night has ordered !

Please sign the Attendance Sheet at our indoor meetings if you wish to join us or contact Josh via 01603 872660 . On the day you can contact him via his mobile( 07904 971530) in case of emergencies.

Editors note. Please note that Nightjars are easily disturbed and we politely request you, CONTROL ANY UN-NECESSARY NOISE. Please respect that some of the group have never experienced the sight and sound of these mysterious nocturnal birds.
