Sunday 3rd January 2016 – Annual Bird Count

Coordinated by Lin Pateman and Phil Borley

WHAT IS IT?

One of the classic favourites of the WVBS calendar, a fun day out! The WVBS teams set out at 08.00am to find the most birds they can see or hear in the Wensum Valley recording area in daylight hours.

Rules:

  1. Teams can be 2-4 people, if two, both must see the bird; if three, at least two must see the bird; if four, at least three must see the bird.
  2. Teams must report to the Great Witchingham Village Hall * by 16.30hrs. to count the results and enjoy refreshments.
  3. Pensthorpe is out of bounds on the day.
  4. Sightings record sheets are provided  and these can be returned to you, once data has been recorded.

We have a unique trophy awarded to the winning team. While this is seen as a competitive team event, it is a fun day and the main thing at the end of the day is we produce a record of the birds seen in the Valley.

WHEN IS IT?

The event will be held on Sunday 3rd January 2016 and you can sign up on December 10th at the Christmas Social . There will be space for your preferences to join a team, lead a team, offer to drive a team and let us know your location for a meeting point.

if any new members, are wondering how much you need to know and would like to participate, please join us and put your name on the list. We will do our best to team you up with someone who knows the birding area. This is a great opportunity to gain some more birding experience. Come on all, let’s give the winning team of the last two years, a run for their money!

Everyone is welcome to go for a meal afterwards (about 6pm) at the Bridge Inn, Lenwade. I shall have some menus to distribute before the event. Remember to tick the box on the sign up list if you wish to join us.  * N.B. change of venue next year: Please note change of meeting venue. This year (2016) we shall be meeting at the new Lenwade/ Gt.Witchingham Village Hall (as our HQ is booked for a children’s party!)  you can arrive there from 4pm.

Great Witchingham Village Hall is on Hubbards Loke.  The hall is part of a new housing estate not currently shown on Google Maps and road signs are awaited!  When entering Great Witchingham on the A1067 turn into Hubbards Loke at the pedestrian crossing.  Once on Hubbards Loke at the T junction turn right then immediately left and follow the road round to your right into the car park.  The website address is: http://www.gwvh.org.uk/
