Sunday 23rd April – A Morning Walk at Thorpe Marshes

coordinator Mary Walker

Meet at NWT Thorpe Marshes for a 9a.m. start. Thorpe Marshes is located at Whitlingham Lane, Thorpe St Andrew, just outside Norwich (Grid Reference TG 267083). Parking is available on Yarmouth Road, Thunder Lane, (this currently has ongoing roadworks) or Hillside Road. Parking is not available in Whitlingham Lane.

At the traffic light junction with Yarmouth Road, walk down Whitlingham Lane. At the end of this short road there is a footbridge which goes over the railway line, where we should meet. The bridge gives access to the reserve. There are no facilities so please bring refreshments. Strong boots are recommended as the reserve can be very muddy.

Thorpe Marshes is one of Norfolk’s newest nature reserves, established in 2011, a mix of grazed and ungrazed marshes, ditches and the open water of St Andrew’s Broad.

We shall be looking for newly arrived migrants such as Reed Warbler, Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler. Last year Thorpe Marshes was the home to four Grasshopper Warblers who were very vocal in April.

This is a short walk of approximately two hours which will enable us to make an optional visit to  nearby Whitlingham Broad afterwards, where there is an excellent cafe and toilet facilities. Parking is available on a Pay and Display basis here.

Please sign the attendance sheet.
