Saturday 6th June – Nightjars at Kelling Heath

 co-ordinator Phil Borley

We are meeting at NWT Cley Beach Car Park grid ref.TG048453 at 1.30pm (bring your membership card, there is a fee for non- members). We are planning a relaxed birding walk within the “Cley Square” area during the afternoon (see Cley Bird Club website www.cleybirdclub.org.uk for more information).

There is a café and toilets at the Cley Visitor Centre, Coast Road, Cley (NR25 7SA ) and refreshments are served until 4.30pm.

We plan to go into Holt for fish n chips about 6pm and there are two really good shops we would recommend, The Albert Street Fish Bar, 22 Albert Street, Holt, Norfolk NR25 6HX. TEL: 01263 712955 or Holt Fish Bar, 11 Shirehall Plain, Holt NR25 6HT and both cook to order and have some seating, if you wish to eat in. We are bringing our camping chairs, drinks etc and hope to sit out at Holt Lowes (5 mins. drive from the town) if the weather is kind to us. Please note, parking is always very limited in Holt so you are advised to car share.

Meet at Kelling Heath Car Park grid ref. TG100 418 at 7.30pm (no parking charge) to walk through the heath for the nightjar hunt. These mysterious creatures cannot be guaranteed, however they were not shy last year. As a special bonus, there may be Turtle Dove and even a Dartford warbler.

Please remember to bring all weather clothing and insect repellent is also recommended. A torch is useful if you have one. See you there!
