Saturday 24th October – Kelling Quags/Kelling Hard & Salthouse Marshes

Co-ordinators Mary Walker & Sue Gale

Our October Field Trip will be to Kelling Quags/ Kelling Hard and Salthouse Marshes. Why not join us for a last chance to enjoy Autumn Birding as British Summer Time ends on this day.

Meet in Kelling village at 9 a.m, (TG094430), at the start of the track down to the sea (opposite The Bookshop /Tea Room). Please park carefully in the village as the road is narrow

We shall walk slowly down past the Water Meadows searching for migrants, before embarking on a sea watch on the shingle bank. Re-tracing our steps back to the cars, where there will be  an opportunity for a coffee/loo break in the Tea Shop, before travelling a couple of miles up the coast to Salthouse Marshes (exactly where we assemble will be confirmed later). Here we are hoping to see visiting Winter Geese and Wigeon in the fields and on the shingle, if we are lucky returning Snow Buntings, with maybe a Lapland Bunting or Shore Lark mixed in. Also there should be various Divers and Grebes on the sea.

The area is very exposed so please wrap up warmly, and have suitable footwear for walking on shingle and as we shall be out all day it is advisable to bring a flask of hot drink and lunch.

Please fill in the sign up sheet at the next meeting.
