Saturday 11th June – A half day’s birding & Nightjars at Kelling Heath

coordinator Phil Borley

We are planning a relaxed birding walk within the “Cley Square” area during the afternoon (see Cley Bird Club website www.cleybirdclub.org.uk for more information). Please note the change of meeting point this year!

Meet at Cley NWT Visitor Centre, Coast Road, Cley NR25 7SA  at 1.30pm (bring your membership card, there is a fee for non- members). There are toilets, a shop and café with refreshments served until 4.30pm.

We plan to go into Holt for fish n chips about 6 pm, there are two really good shops we would recommend, The Albert Street Fish Bar, 22 Albert Street, Holt, Norfolk NR25 6HX  TEL: 01263 712955 or Holt Fish Bar, 11 Shirehall Plain, Holt NR25 6HT and both cook to order and have some seating, if you wish to eat in. We are bringing our camping chairs, drinks etc and hope to sit out at Kelling Heath (5 mins. drive from the town) if the weather is kind to us.

Please note parking is always very limited in Holt so you are advised to car share where possible.

Meet at Kelling Heath Car Park grid ref. TG100 418 at 7.30pm (no parking charge) to walk through the heath for the nightjar hunt. These mysterious creatures cannot be     guaranteed, however they were not shy last year. As a special bonus, there may be Turtle Dove and even a Dartford warbler.

Please remember all weather clothing and insect repellent is useful. Also a torch to find your way back to the car would be  a good idea.  See you there!
