Sunday 27th October – Lackford Lakes

Richard Norris is now leading this walk. You can contact him on 01603 746723 . The Reserve is 121 hectares with 12 lakes and 9 hides. We plan to visit 4 hides in the morning, break for lunch at the centre followed by a walk through the woodland and scrub and as many of the remaining 5 hides as time allows. So bring your packed lunch and MEMBERSHIP CARDS if you are a member of The Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
This is an all day event and we are meeting at 9.30 in the car park at the visitors centre. Grid ref 798705. OS. Explorer map 229; Sat. Nav.52.304448(lat)0.639386(long).
Lackford Lakes is 5 miles north-west of Bury St. Edmunds on the A1101 between Flemton and Lackford (about 38 miles from Thickthorn roundabout). If travelling from Norwich on A11 turn left at the Elveden traffic lights on B1106. After about 4 miles turn right at sharp left-hand bend then 2nd. right and turn at church. The Lakes are (signposted) ½ mile on the right.
Please note. Do not try and use any of the roads around Barton Mills Fiveways roundabout as there are closures and severe traffic restrictions due to the A11 construction.
Facilities There are toilets etc at the centre. Also, arrangements have been made for the use of the Education Room where tea and coffee is on tap all day for £1 a head.
Health & Safety. 90% level walking. Wear the usual appropriate clothing and footwear.
