Wensum Walk Friday 31st July

Following a suggestion for more activities birding in the Wensum Valley, the committee has approved the idea of an occasional Wensum Walk.

The idea is that, very informally, anyone who wanted to join up with others on a specific day at a specific place for a planned easy walk of about two hours or so, could do so.  The walks could be linear, in which case a shuttle of drivers from one end to the other depending on the best parking place would be arranged, or circular, starting and ending at the same place.

The first of these Wensum Walks is planned for Friday 31st July departing at 10.00, aiming to do Lenwade to Sparham Pools.

Meet at Lenwade Common (Great Witchingham Common) by turning into Common Lane, just to the west of the Bakery, Butchers and chip shop on the Fakenham Road in Lenwade.  Drive down the track to the gates for the fishing lakes.  Depending on numbers, we will send two drivers in two cars to leave one car at Sparham Pools, and the other car will return with both drivers for the start of the walk.

The route takes us through a willow carr that can be dry, soggy, wet, very wet or impassable depending on the amount of rain we’ve had and the height of the river.  So if it’s been wet, bring wellies.  If the river is high, we’ll change the plan and do a circular walk from the Common.

After the walk we might well repair to the Bridge Inn for lunch.  It’s under new management, and I’ve been in there and enjoyed it!

You can ask me about it and express interest in coming at the Dawn Chorus, the Summer Bird Count, the Nightjar evening or the Summer Barbecue!
