January saw a great increase in the number of records received without the splendid turnout for the Bird Race. NB I’ve not included the Bird Race records in this summary as they were reported earlier.

Hello everybody

Many thanks to all those who have sent in their earliest singing Chiffchaff records for the valley.

The earliest record received was 9th March 1997 at Swanton Morley Gravel Pit (Barry & Bridget Pummell). Barry and Bridget noted that it was a particularly mild day - 12 degrees C. Bob Bradley recorded one equally as early at Sparham Pools Reserve on 10th March 2003, Anne & Adrian Gardiner recorded one on 11th March 2003 at Sweetbriars Meadows, Norwich and one in Trainer’s Wood near the Halfords roundabout in Norwich on the 12th March 2003.
