Forthcoming Events

At our next indoor meeting on Thursday 19th October we welcome back Mike Linley who will be presenting his talk ”Birds Around the World Part 2”. For many years Mike worked as a photographer on the”Survival” tv series and as we know he has a fund of tales to tell. This promises to be an entertaining evening with a wealth of fine photographs. Lenwade Village Hall 7.30pm. Raffle, refreshments and a warm welcome as usual. Visitors welcome of course. Bring a cushion.

Our next field trip is on Sunday 29th October. We will depart from Morrison’s car park, Fakenham at 8am and go to the beach car park at Cley Coastguard at the end of Beach Road, Cley next the sea (TG048453). There is a parking fee for non-Norfolk Wildlife Trust members of £3, NWT members need to show their card to obtain free parking. If you prefer to go directly to Cley Coastguard then we will be arriving there at approximately 8.45am. We plan to do some sea watching which involves standing or sitting for a while to observe the birds either on the sea or flying by. Warm clothing and footwear are recommended including hat, scarf and gloves as it can be cool standing/sitting still on the shingle ridge. You might find a collapsible seat useful as well; our leader Alwyn will be taking one! We will spend the morning in the Cley area and will probably visit the reserve. Non-NWT members will need to obtain a permit (£3.75) from the Visitor’s Centre. There are toilet and refreshments available at the Beach car park and toilets at the Visitor’s Centre.

After lunch we will move to another site on the coast depending on what birds are around but you are free to leave at lunchtime if you wish. Leader Alwyn Jackson (01362-637752).

We also welcome back Allan Hale who will be our speaker at the indoor meeting on Thursday 16th November. Allan will be talking about “A Kenyan Safari” which will include some splendid photographs of the birds and other wildlife of the area. Lenwade Village Hall 7.30pm.

On Sunday 26th November we will be visiting Sparham Hall Farm to see at first hand what a farmer committed to managing his land in an environmentally sensitive way can achieve. The farmer, Charles Sayer is planning to guide us round his farm and tell us about some of the work he has carried out. We will be meeting in the NWT Sparham Pools Reserve car park (TG073178) at 9am. This will be a morning visit. Sorry no toilet facilities (except bushes) or refreshments available.
