Trip to Zululand
September 2006
Its amazing the lengths birders go to in pursuit of their hobby as shown on the first slide of guest speaker Charles Fox’s presentation which was a picture of all the medication one needs for a trip to Zululand. In a well thought out presentation we were introduced to the exotic birds, wildlife and flowers of a weird and wonderful land where both rhinos (no argument there) and dung beetles have the right of way. Best bird slide was the red bishop. Saddest slide highlighted the ever present threat to the wildlife with a picture of thousands of snares seized over the years from local poachers.
Thanks to all those who visited our stand at the ‘Wild about Norfolk’ fair which was held at Notcutts garden centre in September. The event, organised by the RSPB, was a great success with an estimated 4000 visitors including lots of youngsters. Our stand generated plenty of interest and we signed up a few more members.
Our next indoor meeting at Lenwade Village Hall is on Thursday November 16th when WVBS member Allan Hale will give a talk on ‘A Kenyan Safari’ . Bound to be some good pictures. Start 7.30 pm, all are welcome, refreshments and raffle – just too good to miss.
For our field trip on Sunday November 26th we are visiting Sparham Hall Farm, by kind permission of the owner Charles Sayer. Meet at Sparham Pools Car Park at 9am.
