Pensthorpe Corncrakes – Ray Gribble

While everything is in shutdown to public visitors, work continues at Pensthorpe Natural Park with their breeding programmes, especially Corncrakes. Chrissie Kelly, Head of Species Management at Pensthorpe, has asked me to let you know that they have 7 pairs at the North Elmham pens (actually in Worthing Village) so those of you who are venturing out should be aware that they will soon be calling. Birds should also be returning from Africa soon, so all reports of calling birds are welcome: Calling is usually after dark, and best heard on clear mild nights, and birds that were released last year would usually be expected to return close to the release site in Worthing, although anywhere in Mid-Norfolk is possible.
